MADE BY HAND. FELT AFTER DARK.

Look closer.
Then look again.

A fence becomes a boundary to another world. A familiar shape feels unfamiliar. The smallest detail might be the one you remember on the way home.

Hills of Unrest earned first place in Oak Lawn’s 2024 Halloween decorating contest and second place in 2025. Behind the scene is a family tradition—and a love for bringing Halloween to the neighborhood.

MEET THE RESIDENTSNOT ALL OF THEM REST

A yard full
of bad company.

This is Halloween made personal: an ordinary Oak Lawn home surrounded by extraordinary characters. The archive holds a dragon, a cemetery organist, witches at a cauldron, and a storyteller whose audience probably should have gone home before dark.

Look at the whole scene first. Then study the small things: the skulls on the fence, the crooked branches, the different faces appearing in the colored light. A yard display rewards the visitor who slows down.

YOUR OCTOBER FIELD NOTES

Make it
a haunted night.

Start with Hills of Unrest, then build the kind of evening your group actually wants. A few nearby yards can be enough. If you want a larger ticketed scare, give it its own place in the plan.

  1. 01

    Choose your kind of scare.

Compare a yard display and a walk-through. For younger or hesitant visitors, read the family planning guide together before leaving.

  2. 02

    Check the actual night.

Hills of Unrest is scheduled October 2–31, dusk–10 p.m. Nearby displays run separate calendars. Check current operator updates and leave room for weather or a change of plan.

  3. 03

    Keep the route close.

Find Oak Lawn and nearby yard displays, or compare the wider region’s haunted attractions. Straight-line mileage is a starting point, not a driving-time estimate.

  4. 04

    Arrive curious. Leave thoughtfully.

Follow the viewing arrangements, keep neighboring driveways clear, and take photos without washing out the lighting. Free admission makes this an easy stop; optional donations are accepted on site.

All visitor questions
What are the 2026 dates and hours?

The confirmed 2026 season runs October 2–31, from dusk until 10 p.m. Dusk changes through October. Check the official social updates before leaving, especially when the weather is unsettled.

Is Hills of Unrest free?

Yes. Admission is free and donations are accepted. A donation is optional; it is not an admission charge. No online ticket purchase is needed to visit the yard display.

Is the display suitable for children?

The Chicago Haunt Builders listing describes the display as family friendly, with some surprise scares. Children respond differently to darkness, figures, sound, and movement. Adults should make the decision for their group; this is not a promise of a scare-free visit.

Does it operate in rain or bad weather?

Weather can affect outdoor Halloween plans. A specific closure policy has not been published here. Check the official Instagram account for the latest information before traveling; the seasonal schedule alone is not live confirmation that the display is operating.
